Incoming Executive Director stands outside of Maybelle Center with Jon Ulsh, retiring Executive Director

The bittersweet melody of ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’

Michelle Meyer will succeed retiring Executive Director, Jon Ulsh, on April 1st, after a carefully planned transition period. Jon’s caring leadership leaves Maybelle Center a thriving organization ready for the future. His genuine personal connections with members, staff, donors, and volunteers will be a long remembered part of his legacy.

Jon has spent the last five years sharing life with members and sharing his heart for Maybelle Center with anyone who would listen. Jon’s last day as Executive Director will be March 29th.

While goodbyes are always hard, Jon’s impact on our lives and our organization will endure.

“Jon will be remembered as more than just an exceptional leader who could articulate Maybelle Center’s vision. His compassion and care is authentic, and he has a genuine place in his soul for our members. Jon also knew that adopting diversity, equity, and inclusion was critical to our mission, and that without it, the organization could not credibly pursue its mission. This work has already begun to impact the organization and will be an important and lasting legacy of Jon’s time at Maybelle Center.”
– Dave Demots, Maybelle Center Board President

After his forty-five-year professional career, Maybelle Center’s ethos seeped particularly deeply into Jon’s bones:

“These past five years at Maybelle Center have been by far, the most fulfilling of my entire career. I have never been happier professionally, nor felt that I was doing more important work. Our board, volunteers, and staff are an extraordinary and committed team. But, it is our members who I will miss the most. They have been such good friends, and have taught me time and again lessons about human dignity, resilience, and acceptance that I will never forget. I am grateful to them beyond words.

“I am also deeply grateful to everyone whose commitment and trust allowed us to begin the important and often difficult work of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable organization—a commitment that I hope continues long after my time here.”

– Jon Ulsh, Executive Director

We are overjoyed to announce that Michelle Meyer will be our next executive director beginning April 1st.

Michelle joined our team last April as our Director of Development and Communications and has quickly become a beloved member of our staff. “I love being part of this extraordinary community and feel incredibly honored to work alongside all of the amazing people – members, volunteers, co-workers, donors – who inspire me every single day,” says Michelle.

Board President, Dave Demots, described Michelle as “the ideal candidate” for Maybelle Center.

“Michelle’s success at SOLVE and Caldera will serve her well, but it’s her passion for the mission that makes Michelle the ideal leader. Michelle has the energy to be on the front lines as the number of people living in isolation rises.”
– Dave Demots, Board President

We invite you to join us in honoring Jon for his service and welcoming Michelle into this exciting new chapter in Maybelle Center’s history.

We’ll be holding a brief gathering on Thursday, March 14th at 5:30 PM here at the Center. More details and an invitation will follow shortly!
