Staff and Member in Community Room

A safe place for our members

“It’s like having my own living room!” is how one of our members described the Maybelle Center Community Room which is exactly what we were hoping for when we designed it – a comfortable space for our members to gather during the day.

Our Community Room is a place to watch TV, have a cup of coffee or PB&J, play cards, or just visit with friends, volunteers, and staff.  It’s another place to call home when home is not much larger than a parking space and doesn’t usually include your own bathroom. It’s the place where everybody really does know your name and is happy to see you. It’s just another one of the many ways that we build community for our members.

Impact our Community Room

There are a number of ways you can make a difference in our community room. From in-kind donations to monthly support, we appreciate any help you can give in supporting our members.

Become a Community Room Volunteer

We are always looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy meeting our members and hanging out with them. From doing puzzles, playing games, or joining in on the fun on Movie Day, Community Room volunteers are a welcome presence.

GET INVOLVED

Another Home Within Old Town

A number of members have made friends with others that visit the space – people they wouldn’t have known or met without it. Our members consider the community room “their” home, or their space. Members participate in keeping the room clean and helping each other when needed. We also have individuals who get their lunch delivered by Meals on Wheels to the Community Room so that they don’t have to eat alone in their room.

In addition, people who visit the Community Room can connect to other resources by speaking to our Community Liaison, our Support Services staff and volunteers about their needs.
